With the markets being volatile both on the equity and debt side due to multiple factors like rupee depreciation, rising crude oil prices, global trade tensions and domestic uncertainties, investor education in the mutual fund space gains supreme importance. It is important that investors understand that there is a lot of negative noise around and should stay focussed on their own long term goals.

Investment Basics

Rupee Cost Averaging

Rupee Cost Averaging is an investment approach wherein one invests fixed sum of money at regular intervals. This ensures that one ends up buying more shares (or units of Mutual Fund) when prices are low and less units when prices are high. This investment approach makes prudent sense as equity markets (in which equity mutual funds invest) go through cycles of volatatility over a period of long term like 3 years, 5 years or 10 years.

Market Wrap and RBI MPC Highlights

September turned out to be a challenging month for the Indian stock market with benchmark indices losing over 6%. The reason of the fall has largely been rupee depreciation, higher crude oil prices, liquidity tightening, foreign institutional investor outflows and trade tensions among the world's biggest economies. The 30-share BSE Sensex lost 2,418 points to 36,227 levels while the NSE Nifty gave up 750 points to 10,930 mark.

Fund of the month

L&T Focused Equity Fund - NFO

In times when markets witness volatility, a concentrated portfolio 'focused' only on picking winners, provides ample scope for 'above-average' returns. Only a few companies with quality management and strong earnings tend to outperform the index significantly every year. Expertise of the fund manager and equity investment process is very critical in managing a focused portfolio that helps to identify such companies.

Media Update

Conservative Overall - Meant for play-it-safe investors, the fund has also beaten its benchmark and category over the long term. Why we like it. This fund formerly known as L&T Prudence Fund, has shown considerable discipline in sticking to conservative styleof management for both the equity and debt parts of its portfolio. Its equity holdings have hovered in a tight 68-72 percent band, with the fund not taking opportunistic liberties with this allocationbased on market conditions.
